Our beliefs

When we created Consequential, we started with our principles and our beliefs before our products and services. These guide our every business decision and how we want our business to exist in the world.

We believe in experimentation.

We create space. We are humble with our ideas - innovation is about exploring the unknown, so we don’t pretend to have answers about what the future looks like. Instead, we encourage people to try something new with clear intent and to check in regularly on its impact.

We believe there is a place for disruption, and then there is a place for building.

Disruption for its own sake is no use to anyone. We believe that there are things in the world that deserve to be shaken up and challenged. We want to work with people who are disrupting for the common good, and creating value for themselves and others in the process.

We believe in the possibilities of innovation.

Technology is everywhere and is changing every aspect of society and we want to see radical change in how it is made. Ethics and responsibility and how to implement them practically is an evolving and growing conversation within the technology sector, and we work at the forefront of bridging the gap between principles and practice.

We believe every innovator should be responsible.

We strive to make our work familiar and accessible so that everyone can join the conversation and learn from others. Our approach to responsible innovation is practical and useful, using good design so that ideas are lightweight and simple to understand.

We believe that what you put into the world will come back to you.

This is why we are generous with our ideas and strive to always do the best quality work. We help our clients build the businesses they intend, and to see that benefit their communities.

We believe in stewardship.

For us, stewardship is about the careful and responsible management of technologies by its creators for the public interest. We work to support our clients in developing a mindset of stewardship. We believe businesses and their communities should work alongside each other on the big challenges ahead of us.

We believe people don’t fear change, they fear change put upon them.

Therefore we approach change by co-designing solutions and building in deep democracy - helping to surface, capture and recognise the importance of divergent views so that what’s created is worthy of trust.

We believe our clients want to see change.

The people we work with are dedicated to changing their organisations and have the best knowledge of how to do that. Our role is to bring clarity to this change, present different perspectives, and benevolently challenge boundaries and blindspots along the way.
